I bought MacBook Pro after using Windows based laptops for over 10 years.
I was asked the reason for this change and I thought it could be a decision maker for others to buy it or not.
If you’re landing on this website for the first time then you may not know that I have been working as a freelancer from last 10 years and I can not go anywhere without a laptop because of the nature of my work.
I used to have Acer Laptop back in 2011 that I used for over 7 years and then I upgraded to Dell Inspiron in 2018 which I used for 3 years.
But then I decided to upgrade to MacBook pro in 2021. Why I had to make that decision?
Why I didn't get MacBook earlier
Like I mentioned, I am working as a freelancer from last 10 years and my dependency on laptops a bigger than any other gadget.
Biggest difference between a Windows based laptop and a MacBook is pricing first of all.
A good configuration Windows based laptop can cost around $500 – $800 whereas a MacBook Pro costs around $2000 USD.
When I was in the initial phase of my career I couldn’t spend that chunk of money to get a laptop and since I was studying and I had to take money from my parents for the laptop when they were working hard to arrange my college fee, I couldn’t ask for more.
So no MacBook at that time.
Why I got MacBook in 2021?
Before 2017, I used to study and work. I started full time freelancing back in 2017. Since then I have been working around 8-9 hours a day.
Battery Life of MacBook Pro
Yes, it’s not showing off the apple logo, it’s not performance but it’s battery life. With one charge, I can continuously work on my MacBook Pro for 7-8 hours without having to worry to charge it again.
This 7-8 hours is for heavy usage. Like I always have 7-10 browser windows open, then I need different software running like Excel, Photoshop, iMovie and many more.
It really justifies the time. Whereas in a Windows laptop you can not get more than 2-3 hours in a single charge.
So I can really just carry my laptop for a day without it’s charger if it’s fully charged. I mean how amazingly easy it makes your life.
You won’t find charger slots everywhere so it’s a life savior.
Performance
Now let’s about performance. I mean it would be really hard to explain it in detail about the M1 processor and SSD and what not.
But in terms of layman language, I would just call it “AMAZINGGGG”.
I have worked on different system so I know about the speed and time it takes in switching different applications. But MacBook Pro has made me to forget about all these issues.
So the screen size may be small but the performance that you get with each Key Press and mouse click is too good.
Screen Size
This is the only place where I felt I could have got more. I could afford to have a MacBook with screen size of 13.1″ inches.
I was already going over my budget for this but MacBook 16 inches was too costly for me.
But you get used to it if you work on it regularly and it longer hurts me that I don’t have a bigger screen on my MacBook Pro.
It’s the performance that matters I am getting everything out of it.
Should you get a MacBook Pro?
If you’re just studying then I won’t suggest buying a MacBook Pro because you can do everything on a Windows based system and you don’t need to sit all day on your laptop.
If you’re a professional working for more than 8-10 hours a day then you can consider buying MacBook only if your pocket allows you to spend this huge amount on a laptop.
If you’re a traveler, then this is a must buy for you. The reason that you don’t have to charge it too often and also it’s C TYPE charge port allows you to easily find sockets to charge your laptops.
If you just want to show off but don’t really work on computers or laptop then you can get better stuff in the same amount so not something I would recommend.
Last but not the least, PRICE! If your pocket doesn’t allow, then you don’t have to buy it. If you really need one, get a refurbished one or buy it from someone you know. My personal suggestion is to get a new one always.
I still say you can get similar performance on a Windows based laptop. So don’t dishearten if your pocket doesn’t allow you to buy it.
If you don’t feel content working on small screens then go for 16 inches screen. You may feel dissatisfied ever after all the benefits.
And you won’t enjoy using it if you have to worry about the EMIs or credit card payment for this laptop later.
Cheers and if you get a new one, don’t forget to share a picture on our Facebook page.
